Match Report
The Renegades returned to Gillon Oval for the first round of the season playing against Collegians. It really was the perfect day for football, not a cloud in the sky! The canteen was open and we were also selling our Club Memberships on the sidelines with great success. Adding to this a number of family, friends and locals had come down to support us.
The Renegades played the Premier side in tough and unfamiliar conditions with the heat and no swirling wind which Gillon is known for. Nicola (Crispy) put the Renegades on the board early with a goal in the 1st quarter. Missed opportunities in the 2nd quarter proved costly however Pia Salvatore’s perfect block helped Emily Taylor light up the 3rd quarter with a side step to slot a much-needed goal and put the Renegades back in it. We dominated the ball in our forward 50 for most of the game however couldn’t covert it on the scoreboard when needed. The backline held strong through the entire game and leadership from Felicity Smith (Deputy Vice Captain)! Next week we are up against Old Camberwell who had a win on the weekend, we are confident we can take some lessons learnt into next week’s game and come away with the win.
