Match Report
The Battle of Brunswick started early with both clubs having an amazing list of players, three games were able to be played on Saturday. In stunning sunny winter conditions Brunswick Renegades had the home ground advantage and with the knowledge it was the final home game for the season, there was a lot to play for.
Thirds
The thirds played strong and laid a solid foundation for the day ahead. Both teams came out for a fiery game, with high pressure and intensity around the ball. Mugsy was a welcome return in the ruck, as was Morgyn and Jo in the backline. Both with their return to footy after some time off. Stasi, Grace and Rachel were lively up forward, backing up Evie and Maddie. It was a tough day for the Renegades as the impressive defensive pressure from Brunswick West held them scoreless. The Renegades worked hard to hold off their opponents throughout all four terms.
Reserves
The Ressies had a tall order to fill coming up against the top team who have a percentage of 650% and have kicked 959 points at the average of 80 per game. JP and Sarah Gregg (who had a long awaited return) were amazing rebounding constant attacks to the seemingly endless tall forwards Wests had. Jane Williamson kept her opponents on their toes as the defence line held strong. Stasi, Grace and Rachel backing up a second game. The midfield battled it out with a tireless work rate, including plenty of dodging, weaving and tackling. Grace Kendall in particular pulled off one pirouette that had her spin around four defenders earning play of the day. It was a hard day for forwards who made lots of half-chances but couldn’t convert. It was a huge defensive effort to only keep them to 34 points which the Westies didn’t see it coming, getting their (equal) lowest score of the season.
