Match Report
The reserves continued their strong effort and high intensity on the weekend, narrowly going down to a side much higher on the ladder. A strong team on paper with a number of senior players from previous weeks, the boys got off to a strong start after a rousing pre-match rev up from Con!
A big focus from the coach was on the first quarter, with a good start being essential to stay in the game. The boys did not let Con down, starting with high pressure and intensity to make sure Therry were under the pump whenever they got the ball. Stuart “Bubsy” Matherson was like a raging bull in the middle of the ground while Cam Fox was put to full forward in a defensive role which saw him chase, tackle, mark, play on and goal – much to the delight of the seniors standing behind the goals. Sleepy and Dobbo showed their class, the latter kicking goals from everywhere to level the scores at half time.
The third quarter was again a tough fought contest with Hunts and Sam “Davo” Davidson working their way into the game. Dermie from the clubbies also provided a match highlight by taking a hanger that Keown would have been proud of. Injuries were a feature of the third with Tennant, Chiz and Nathan all being ruled out for the rest of the match.
Therry wrestled control of the game in the last, showing they are a side who know how to win – something we can get better at. Danny King, Nick Marchbank and Spud battled hard all day in the middle while Bones and Frankie injected some much needed drive in the last to keep us alive.
Overall a great effort from the team, although the focus is now on turning effort into wins and singing the song.
Thanks to Browny for goal umpiring and Chris “Razor Ray” Ford for offering his services (free of charge!) to do the central umpiring.
Reserves boys – make an effort to get on the track this week and get ready for a crack at Melbourne High on Saturday in front of all the ladies!
