Match Report
With clouds looming over and the temperature dropping, the senior team took to the field against a polished Tigers team who had played finals last year.
The team was led out by “The Golden Fist” Monica Gray who tore through a magnificent banner commemorating 50 games for Brunswick.
From the first bounce it was evident it was going to be a tough contest. Mentone were very fast and had some absolutely booming kicks on them, snagging a few quick goals to set up an early lead.
Mon was moved from centre half forward to down back to help stem the flow of goals. Winning out in a spectacular goal saving 3 vs 1 contest did the 50 game “Golden Fist” legacy no harm.
Samara’s brilliant bump had cheers from the sidelines and Bella’s tackle in the dying minutes of the third quarter had the crowd on their feet!
To keep them scoreless in the 3rd was a fantastic effort.
Gem backed up playing in the first game to play out the second as well, a monumental effort!
Post-game in the social rooms Flick was the winner of the Mentone Captain’s Choice taking home a nice bottle of sparkling wine.
It was a tough, but fair game played in great spirits. Mentone were a great opponent, who played fantastic footy and we look forward to playing at their state of the art facilities when they’re completed.
