Match Report
It was an unusually warm afternoon for Melbourne in May in Glen Waverly. Even more unusual was the fact that the Renegades were lacing up their boots instead of settling into recovery watching RuPauls Drag Race on a Sunday!
Jane-o let Mazenod know early on who was in charge of the backline with some fierce tackles and defence on the line. Newcomer Freya made her mark in the first quarter with a snap from the pack to score the first goal. Then followed that up with an amazing bump, won the ball and snagged a second! Welcome aboard! Renegades kept Mazanod to 0 in the second quarter and led by 13 points.
The wind wreaked havoc with the ball throughout the game, and there was carnage on the field – several players stumbling away with injuries. Co-captain Dani Hagen showed the opposition how Brunswick play football with excellent bodywork. Lloydy was an absolute wing master that never stopped pushing the ball into the 50. Tags stood tall and strong, refusing to go down in a tackle, and Keffo took on the game with some fantastic play-on in the second and third quarter.
With tired legs and no bench by the fourth quarter, the three mark line-up along the wing was an absolute highlight and a testament to how quickly new player skills are developing. It was a challenging game in tough conditions, but the Reserves should be proud of their efforts!
