Match Report

Brunswick NOBSPC took it right up to PEGS out at “The Runway”, leading by nine points close to halftime, but the home team showed why they are top-of-the-ladder by blowing us away in the second half.

In unusually still conditions, PEGS opened the game in ominous fashion, with two goals in as many minutes. We then worked our way into it for rest of the term without getting reward on the scoreboard.

The hard work was rewarded in the second quarter when, during a dominant 20-minute period, we kicked five goals in-a-row. Classy forwards in Chris Horsley, Chris Ford and Matt Shannon got on the end of some excellent ball movement as an upset beckoned.

To PEGS’ credit, they kicked the last three goals of the term to regain the lead, then displayed superior skills in a third quarter demolition. We played the game out in the final quarter but couldn’t stem the flow of majors to the home side.

Ford was a shining light, kicking half our score. It is good to see him back in strong marking form this season. Others to battle hard included Horsely, Lachlan Ezard, Geremie Ganino, Matt Dickson, Aiden Pollock and George Hartney.

Next week at home is a big one for more than one reason. For starters, we play Oakleigh in a very important game. Secondly, we are celebrating the VAFA’s 125th year by honouring three of our greatest contributors of the past quarter-century with medallions as well as the best players on the day from both teams.

We would love to have a huge crowd at Gillon Oval to cheer on the team and post-match for the presentations. See you there!
