Match Report

Prior to Saturday’s game against bottom side Whitefriars, with a Brunswick NOBSPC side that on paper appeared as strong as any since the start of the season, coach Luke Mahoney warned of the danger of complacency. Unfortunately that is what exactly what he got, mixed with a strong dose of “sacked coach” response from the ‘Friars, who were so dominant the game was over well before halftime.

In still conditions, a flat first quarter was worrying but nothing like the debacle that was the second. Nine goals to one. And it could have been worse. For good measure the home side piled on another six in the third term. Five last quarter goals to us meant some percentage – and face – was saved.

The best that can be said is that we are still four points and ten per cent clear of relegation and can look forward to putting that threat to rest at home this Saturday against Therry.

After our defense had been so good the week before, they had a horror day. The conditions must have favoured forwards as our best on the day included teenager Dom Sullivan, while the consistent Chris Ford and Matt Shannon slotted three goals apiece.

Daniel Mott – fresh off his VAFA Rising Star nomination – was again very good and ruckman Scott Thomas never stopped trying. But the midfield, feeling the loss of Geremie Ganino, generally had a day to forget.

It promises to be a great day on Saturday as we get our past players back and aim to finish our home season with a win. See you at Gillon!
