Match Report

Playing at Gillon Oval for the first time this year, Brunswick NOBSPC made a promising start before a late fade out, resulting in a five-goal loss to northern neighbour PEGS.

The highlight of the first quarter was undoubtedly former captain Simon Harwood’s goal with his first kick since 2011. It is great to have such a true clubman back on the field.

Much of the term was, however, like contested circle work as both defences were on top, with a late goal to Matt Shannon giving us the lead at the first break. Unfortunately Shannon would suffer a knee injury later in the game that will see him miss a number of weeks.

The second and third quarters were arm wrestles riddled with basic skill errors by both sides in ideal conditions. There was no shortage of effort but we tended to butcher our entries into the forward line and struggled to find goal kickers generally. PEGS then kicked away late in the match to seal the win.

Gerrard Bence continued his return to form with a fine performance. Todd Cleary was good early with clean ball use, while many of our newcomers were prominent, including ruckman Evan Cole, Scott Galloway and Dan Mahoney. Gabe Williams also tried hard.

Our greatest rivalry is reignited this week in the form of Old Paradians away in an absolute must-win game. Be at Bundoora to support the boys!
