It was a tough loss in dreary conditions this weekend at Gillon, with the Renegades up against a tenacious Aquinas side hungry to claim their first victory for 2025. After being gifted with dry grass and sunshine the previous five Saturdays, it was a slow start for Brunswick on the scoreboard but as physical as ever on the ground as both sides slogged it out in sleeting rain.

Brunswick ran out alive and kicking this chilly Saturday morning after a two-week break, fully defrosted and raring to go. The Renegades displayed immediate solid forward momentum and consistent pressure, firing on all cylinders right out the gate. Valiant attempts on goal from the tireless Mae Lesley-Otti and Emily Collins resulted in behinds with the Demons responding well to the purple surge.

The Renegade team spirit was at work early this week, with Brunswick unanimously agreeing before game day to volunteer players for the Coburg Lions to ensure that the match could continue without forfeit. Proceedings opened with a heartfelt Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony honouring Indigenous Round, and with brewing celebrations of club stalwart Amy “D” Dillon's big 100th game in the air, the energy was electric at Gillon Oval from the first bounce.

In a game farewelling two club legends, the Renegades did not quite find the result they were looking for in their last outing for the season at Rathmines Reserve on Saturday. While Brunswick may have taken on the Hawks away from home, the Renos found plenty of their trademark heart and persistence to display in front of the sizeable purple crowd gathered to watch Kate "Mad Dog" Sullivan's 100th and final game.
