Match Report

The comeback tour continues with the best forward to ever be made full back Jane-o (Jane Williamson) taking the stage once again and giving us a crowd-pleasing performance. She made like a Spice Girl in a 2 become 1 chase down tackle that cleared out the competition in one fell swoop. Welcome back, legend!

Another big return from our merch queen come midfield mayhem master, Sammy (Sam Arthur)! Proving she’s not just a leader off the field in the club, bringing great voice and structure to the game – great to have her back out there! Claire Butterly is another quiet achiever who is often seen and not heard; she just goes about her business. She gets things done all over the field right through to the backline and is always ever so graceful about it. Just kidding. She is loud, proud and makes a massive impact on any game she plays, and we love to see it.

Some great chemistry between Butterly and Kayla, who is giving us incredible poise and accuracy so early in her footy career – can’t wait to see what is to come. Elsie is also bringing great maturity to her game, and her hunger for a good tackle is creating some excellent opportunities in the midfield. There was good ball movement across the field, making it an exciting game to watch.

It is well known that the Renegades bring up the league’s average age and are often surrounded by players ten years their junior; it is something we are proud of. But that’s not to say we don’t LOVE the energy our younger [read, under 30] players bring to the team. Hard to say what was more satisfying, seeing Lydia score her first goal in the first half or enjoying the big celebration afterwards – SLAY GIRL, SLAY. Another favourite goal celebrator, Eliza, got to put on another show this week with a superb goal in the second half.

It was another painful defeat, but the Renegades still had plenty to be happy about, hosting their annual club fundraiser Saturday night. This was a slight twist on the usual Trivia Night, this time around, we tried our hand at BINGO, and I think it’s fair to say it was a very successful evening. Huge thanks to the fantastic prizes donated by club sponsors Nelson Alexander, 4 Pines Welcome to Brunswick, Hope Street Space, Sacred Heart and all the local businesses that chipped in to make it a very special night. You never know what you are going to get when the Renegades lead an event, but you always know it is going to be entertaining. And loud. And plenty of banter.
