Match Report
Brunswick Renegades suffered an agonising one-point loss against Caulfield Grammarians in an exciting Premier division game at Glenhuntly Oval on Saturday.
The scoreboard tells the tale of what transpired. Six behinds in the first quarter, followed by five in the second, reflected the great many chances created by the hard-working Renegades, but also a lack of polish.
An early goal in the third quarter suddenly gave us reward for effort and the game became a goal-for-goal affair thereafter, with an excellent running goal to Niamh Moynihan securing a lead into the final break.
The last quarter was tense, with the majority of play in our forward half, but the home side managed to slot two majors on the counter-attack. We were very brave to the final siren and unlucky not to win, or even draw, with a late shot on the run from 30 metres sliding across the face of goal to go out-on-the-full.
Credit to the players for a great effort which saw them end up with 18 scoring shots to nine. Goal-kicking practice awaits this week though!
The big news of the round was the first-ever win to the Renegades reserves, defeating Fitzroy at Ramsden Street Oval by five points!
Congratulations to the girls who celebrated appropriately, as they should.
