Daniel Mott Runner Up Best & Fairest Calder Cannons U18’s 2018

Current Brunswick NOBs player Daniel Mott polled second in the Robert Hyde Medal for Calder Cannons U18 Boys in season 2018. Robert Hyde coached North Old Boys from 1990 to 1994 before coaching Calder Cannons from 1996-2006. He holds the honour of being the longest serving coach at Calder.

Daniel played 5 games for Brunswick NOBs and 15 of a possible 17 games for Calder Cannons in 2018. He was sent back to Brunswick by the coaches of Calder in Rounds 6 & 7 to improve his defensive running and intensity. He responded well and finished the year strongly being named best player on 3 occasions and polling 3 votes in the TAC Cup Morrish Medal in the back half of the season.

Much credit goes to the Brunswick Junior Football Club and Brunswick Football Club for the pathway created for Daniel to be involved in representative Junior Football and then Senior Football to help ready him for the TAC Cup. Particular acknowledgement to Trevor Ludeman and Ross Coverdale, Daniel’s dual premiership coaches in his formative years at BJFC.

Daniel played with Calder Cannons as a bottom ager in 2018 and is eligible to play again in 2019.

George Kelly Invited to trial for Calder Cannons 2019 U18’s Squad

George Kelly, a BJFC U17 Colts player has been a regular interleague representative for the Yarra Junior Football League and has finished top 3 several times in league best and fairest counts. In season 2018 George made 3 appearances from Brunswick U19’s playing on loan from the BJFC U17’s. This usually meant playing a football match on both Saturday and Sunday.

George will start pre-season with Calder Cannons in November alongside Daniel Mott and play in a series of practice matches in Feb/March 2019 in the hope of making the final squad of 50 for the U18’s TAC Cup 2019 Season. George has been invited as a bottom ager and will in all likelihood get the same opportunity for season 2020.

David Marchione named in the Calder Cannons U16 Barry Davis Squad for 2019

David Marchione, a BJFC U15 player in 2018, has been named in the Calder Cannons 2019 U16 Squad. David is an athletic key position player who has represented the Yarra Junior Football League with aplomb kicking 3 goals from CHF in one match.

David has been in the Calder Cannons program since U15’s and gets his chance in the 2019 U16’s squad to play against the other TAC Cup Metropolitan teams during school holidays. The U16’s TAC Cup program culminates in the selection of State Teams to play in a National Championship held in July each year.

David is known to the Senior Club as a water carrier on game day. With any luck he will make his Senior debut in 2019.

Calder Cannons Girls Program

Calder have the same program for Girls as they do Boys starting with U15’s. Calder won the inaugural TAC Cup Girls U18 Premiership in Season 2017, producing 3 AFLW players from the team. In the 2018 season, Calder produced the TAC Cup Girls Best and Fairest co-winner.

A pathway exists for the Girls of BJFC to progress to Calder Cannons. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, we will see our first Junior Girl in the same squads as the Boys mentioned above.
