The Renegades’ second season is off to a good start with 3 wins and 1 bye tucked away heading into round 5. So far the girls have had convincing wins against Port Melbourne (8 goal win), Fitzroy (10 goal win) and Hallam (7 goal win). They are currently sitting second on the ladder behind Chirnside Park, who look to be the team to beat this year in Division 4.
The team has really come together and the old cliché ‘all played well’ is apt. There have, however, been some standout individual performances. Renegades Captain Esther ‘The Wizard’ Hassett is leading from the front with 18 goals at full forward (three times more than any other player in the league). And Adele ‘Dolbs’ Brazenor has been literally unstoppable on the ball since relocating to Melbourne from the tropics.
Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the Renegades’ season so far has been everyone’s willingness to share volunteer duties on game day. With the club growing at such a rapid rate, we have a few girls missing out each week. But everyone is chipping in and there is a great feeling amongst the playing group at the moment. Some players are yet to perfect the lyrics to the club song, but after a few more wins we should be on track for that KPI.
A big thank you to the Renegades Team Manager, Kim Hennessy, and other committee members (especially Kelly Dungate, Caroline Duffield, Anna Morrow and Clare Woodhouse) for their tireless work behind the scenes. We hope to report more success later in the year.
