Monica Gray is a woman of few words on the page but she’s an exciting character in person, on and off field. Mon came to the Renegades in our second year in 2015 and enthusiastically set about helping Leonie (our Head Coach) with some tenancy advice while doing a drill in her first training session. It was surprising but made more sense when we found out she worked for the Residential Tenancies Board. That just sums Monica up really: a ball of enthusiasm, smart as a whip and someone who just gets in there and gets multiple things done at once.

A successful softball player with no footy experience, she showed that softball is in fact a very transferable sport to AFL or else she’s just the ultimate sportswoman. She plays like a mix of Alex Rance, being everywhere down back and taking a squillion marks a game, as well as a SOS Silvagni beating a key forward body on body, game in game out. This is despite the fact that she’s one of the slighter players on the field. Also known for her love of running from home to most games as a warm up, including our 2015 Grand Final, Monica is the rock in defence and a dream to watch play.
