On Saturday NOBSPC’s little brothers and sisters took to the field for the first time for 2015. There was a mixed bag of results but plenty to like!
BJFC had 9 teams take to the field on Sunday with a couple of firsts – First time for a U15 girls team and first time for two teams in the one age group, being 2 x U9’s (White & Purple).
U9 White is a new team with Harry O’Farrell kicking three goals for the Whites in a high scoring game against St. Marys (Greensborough) with both sides scoring 47 points each.
U9 Purple Coach Brendan Geary (NOBS 1995 Reserve Premiership Player) commenting that it took 4 weeks last year to get a goal, so Whites have made a great start to the season. U9 Purple (last years Tackers) also have a great start to the season with a win over the second St. Marys team. (Note scores for these age groups are not recorded).
U10 had a great twin over Templestowe coming from 20 points down at half time to win by 20 points.
U11 were defeated by Ashburton 4-8-32 to 3-1-19, while U12 in a high scoring game at Gillon Oval accounting for Whitehorse Colts (last year’s Premiers ) 9-3-57 to 4-5-29.
U13 lost 6-1-37 to Parade/ St.Damians 8-6-54 at Binnak Park.
U14 Dragons had scored a big win 18-15-123 over Park Orchards 4-8-32 at Domeney Reserve.
U15’s played Ashburton at Ferndale Park and in a high pressure game (the Dragons laid 60 tackles for the day!) won 13-5-83 to 8-8-56. Hopefully this had something to do with the fact that they trained with the Senior and Reserve players during the week!
U15 Girls (a combination of U12 and 15 girls) took on last year’s Premiers Kew Rovers at Gillon Oval and it was a steep learning curve, with the Premiers winning convincingly by over 100 points, but with all players enjoying the contest for the first time.
Well done to all players and support staff, it is a great effort just to get all the teams up and running!
