In 1975 we were a fearsome outfit under Captain Mick Bevanda (NMFL Best & Fairest) and VC Chris Hibbert (Team B&F).

We missed the finals on % having been beaten by Broadmeadows. Their captain had tattoos and drove to the ground in a EH Holden.

We played on the uneven paddock in Royal Park at the back of the Royal Children’s Hospital. The cell block change rooms have long been demolished.

Brother Cripps was our inspiring coach – well at least he could drive the bus. Young Mick Hibbert was the boundary and Mr Hibbert was the scrupulously fair Goal Umpire. John Argote couldn’t play football but he provided us with Gatto style protection.

An Upfield player threw a punch at Peter Minuz and in his attempt not to be reported initially lay on the ground so the umpire couldn’t obtain his number. Later he removed his jumper and ran off the ground. He got weeks!!!

We were young and innocent until John Lee, who was a solid player broke his opponent’s collarbone with a shirtfront. We knew then that U15 footy was fair dinkum. After that incident Mark “Crackers” Morath our fearless forward pocket who used his scintillating pace to turn many a game, developed a mystery injury and went off leaving us with 17 players.

The following year under the leadership of Butler and Lynch the team disbanded midseason.
