Match Report
In a much improved effort NOBSPC kept up with Ormond for most of the day before running out of legs late in the game and going down by 46 points at Gillon Oval.
In a bright start Callum Rose kicked the first two goals of the day. Matt Keown was ever dangerous and had two goals of his own by quarter time, when we led an open contest five goals to four.
Early in the second quarter we extended our lead to two goals before Ormond kicked seven of the next eight goals of the game and by midway through the third quarter it was looking ominous.
Then we dug deep and worked our way back into the contest, kicking the next three goals and reducing the margin to two goals early in the final quarter. But for a couple of misses late in the third term we could have been on level terms. This effort and yet more injuries ultimately told on us as Ormond piled on the final five goals of the game.
Many players contributed in a tough game, with Keown and Bence again excellent, while Pat Kelly continued his consistent season. Jezza Nettlefold played his best match of an injury interrupted year, Mick O’Donoghue was also good after being out for many weeks and Christian Ryan put in a typically gutsy display after copping a blow to the ribs early.
We are back at Gillon Oval next week against undefeated Kew before the mid-season break.
