The Renegades women’s teams are back and with great numbers are fielding two teams in the VAFA in 2018. In the newly created Premier B division we’ll be playing off against 3 reigning premier teams who have been elevated from lower divisions, with our reserves team competing against the reserves teams from the same clubs.

The women’s teams headed to Keilor Park Reserve on Saturday 17th March for some game practice in some very, hot and windy conditions. With a huge list this year, the Renegades competed in 3 scratch matches with the newly formed women’s side for the Preston Bullants and St Mary’s/Salesians, with 28 new players taking the field. The 3rd game against ex Div 1 reigning premiers in St Mary’s was very hard fought with their coach predicting some “good ding dongs this season” between our sides.

The Renegades head coach Leonie Hennessy said “There were some positive signs with game awareness and structures from new players, with a great show of players and supporters all day. We’re excited for the season ahead with our list which has depth and very eager players who are keen to learn and develop.”

3 scratch matches played:

  • Game 1 vs Preston Bullants lost 8- 47, 18 new players debut
  • Game 2 vs St Mary’s/Salesians won 32- 1, 5 new players debut
  • Game 3 vs St Mary’s/Salesians lost 26 – 40, 5 new players debut

The Renegades are off to Ramsden Oval in Clifton Hill this Saturday with two matches at 8.30 and 10am, to allow players from both teams to get across town to Princes Park for the AFLW Grand Final in the afternoon.
