Match Report
An undermanned Brunswick were unable to transfer their winning form of the previous week to Toorak Park on Saturday as finals-bound Prahran Assumption proved too classy over four quarters.
With the aid of a gusty breeze, the Two Blues got off to a fast start, before Brunswick’s defence – led by Lewis White who was playing a blinder – managed to hold them up and limit the damage going into the first break.
In the second quarter, it was our turn to get some early goals on the board to close the gap, with Nick Burgin playing some inspirational footy in the midfield, but as halftime loomed, the loss of important players through injury, including Chris Gavaghan during the week and Dom Sullivan early in the game, was starting to have an impact, as we struggled to take advantage of our forward entries.
The home side came out after the long break intent on putting the game away, and they did just that with seven goals to one. By the last quarter, star players Burgin and Jed Carey had joined Sullivan on the sidelines, so our final score needs to be viewed with that in mind. Overall the Two Blues were just too quick and made a lot less mistakes than we did on the day.
White, who has had an excellent season, was an absolute star, even going forward in the last term to kick a classy goal. Through the middle, Ben Wilson, Geremie Ganino and James Moverley were all great goers over four quarters. In just his third senior game, teenager Will McKenzie was very good. Others to battle hard included Anthony Argento, Liam Whelan and William Mott.
We have our last home game this Saturday against Ormond. Please join us for the pre-game lunch as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of a North Old Boys Under 19 flag which included some of the biggest names to represent our great club!
