Match Report

Brunswick NOBSPC surprised premiership contenders Ormond with a fast start into the gale at EE Gunn Reserve on Saturday before the home team’s defence stood tall in the second quarter to set them up for victory.

In the second half both teams eventually managed to capitalise on the five-goal wind, but our goals – which included some beauties from outside 50 – came too late to affect the result.

It was the impressive Matt Dickson who flew out the blocks with a goal inside the opening 15 seconds of the game. There followed an excellent quarter with 16-year-old Daniel Mott prominent, Geremie Ganino again in everything and Jayden Tilbrook and Cam Fox leading our defence.

We opened the second term well but couldn’t take our chances which proved costly as Ormond began to get on top of us in the lead into half-time.

When it was Ormond’s turn with the wind again they were profligate until late in the quarter when they started to find the goals. Their fifth of the term after the siren meant the lead became a bridge too far, especially as we had lost Ganino to a shoulder injury.

Two quick goals at the start of the last showed we were not going away quietly, but Ormond responded with the next two. To our credit we kicked the last three majors to better reflect our effort on the scoreboard.

Mott deserved his first BOG in senior footy with a classy four-quarter display, while George Hartney was again hard at it, and kicked a goal from the wing to boot.

The defence was tremendous all day, with Lachlan Ezard, Jarrod Bye and Aidan Pollock earning plaudits from the coach.

We have now finished playing teams from the top-half of the ladder and face Whitefriars next week as we begin our three-week campaign to secure our spot in Division One next year. Get behind the boys!
