Stewards’ report on NOBSPC for round 3:

“Jumped well and took up a good early position before racing very erratically in the middle stages of the race and almost losing touch with the field approaching the home turn. At the top of the straight unleashed a withering run to hit the front. Opposition rallied but was strong to the line and held on to win.”

Phew. Wins like this one are great but hard on a supporter’s ticker. After looking good early we struggled to kick six goals in three quarters, then before you knew it we had doubled that number and were three goals in front. The last 15 minutes seemed to take hours but we ran out winners by nine points. It makes you wonder what we can achieve with a consistent four quarter effort.

This is a game that contained the good, the bad and the ugly from NOBSPC. Thankfully during the bad and ugly bits we had Kelly down back playing the game of his life, which the rest of the team seemed to draw inspiration from as the comeback was mounted. Special mention must also be made of Dunlop (who showed his class), Shepherd (dominant again), Horsley (the spark in the last quarter), Holt (solid in defence) and Beaumont (now officially a goal sneak).

In an even competition, we are 2-1 with four of our next five games at home, giving us the chance to really springboard our season if we bring more good and less of the other stuff.
