New Assistant Coach and Fitness & Rehab Coach appointed

In exciting news for the club, Paul Greenham has been appointed as Senior Assistant Coach and Dene Rodger has been appointed as Fitness & Rehab Coach for season 2016.

Paul has enjoyed an extensive playing and coaching career which includes two seasons at Richmond in 1998-99 and two seasons at Port Melbourne. Following his stint at AFL & VFL, Paul went on to play over 150 games at St.Kevin’s Old Boys including a senior premiership in 2004. In 2007, Paul started his coaching career by taking on the playing coaching role at Prahran Assumption for two seasons and then moved into development & line coach roles for TAC side Western Jets. Last season Paul was the assistant coach at Uni Blacks in Premier division and is a level 2 AFL accredited coach.

Dene grew up in Benalla and played a couple of years of senior footy for the Benalla Saints in the GVFL before moving to Melbourne for uni. When in Melbourne he began playing with La Trobe University in 2011, and has played both there and back at Benalla when work has allowed.

He recently completed a degree in Sports Science at Victoria University. During his time studying he gained experience training elite junior athletes out of AAMI park, before landing a position with the Richmond Football Club working with the VFL team as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach.  His roles include running the club’s GPS system on all players at training and on game day, monitoring on-field rotations during games, coaching players in the gym and assisting players with rehab and recovery protocols. Dene also works as a personal trainer at Invigorate Personal Training.

New senior coach, Luke Mahoney said both coaches will add enormous value to the club. “Paul has had a decorated career as a player and has very valuable experience as a coach at varying levels. Paul has a great knowledge of the game and communicates very well. He will be a great asset for the development of the playing group.”

“Dene has a football & education background that will be a great asset for us to prepare and recover as best as we can for the season ahead. His current role with Richmond will also allow us to keep up with the modern training and game day preparation trends. We are fortunate to have two high quality coaches join us next season.”

Both coaches will be at pre-season training on 23 November and look forward to meeting the playing group then.
