Last Sunday, BJFC Under 12 Team made history by winning the clubs first ever Premiership.

Grand Final – U12 – Brunswick Premiers for 2012

The Junior Club created history on the weekend with its first ever Premiership, with convincing win over Bundoora at Binnak Park on Sunday. Bundoora were the only team to beat the Dragons this year and came through from the 1st Semi Final to meet the minor premiers.

This side was the BJFC first U10 side from 2010 and still contained 10 players under age and still eligible to play U11. Kicking with the 5 goal breeze in the first quarter the Dragons kicked 3-5-23 to zip, with a great display of winning the ball out of the centre and around the contests. The tackling by the forwards to keep the ball in the forward 50m was tremendous. The quarter time instructions were the defence would now be under pressure and to ensure all players manned up and to try and kick 2 goals in to the wind – They team didn’t disappoint and kicked 1-3 to extend the lead to 32 points at half time. Tackle count at half time was 29 and “first to the ball” 35.

Third quarter with the wind and some positional changes saw the Dragons blow the contest apart with a 4 goal 5 quarter. Dominating the play out of the centre were the rucks/rovers of Angus Norman, Will Bonny McKenzie, Oscar Rause and the half backline of William Mott, Finian Eaton and Daniel Mott. The last quarter resulted in a 3-4 against the wind resulting in an 83 point win. The biggest score the year.

Three years in the making, this was a fantastic result for the club, where this team won 4 games (2010), 9 game (2011 + first semi) and went onto win 16 games this year. The tackle count was extraordinary with 65 tackles for the game, a majority coming from the forwards. (Coach Trevor Ludeman)
